About Green Door Cottages
We have a delightful collection of restored 18th Century Cornish buildings that were originally fishermen’s dwellings and now make eight attractive self contained holiday cottages positioned around a sunny courtyard garden, and just a stone’s throw from the beach.
We also have two lovely self-contained apartments in an elevated position, with fabulous views over Port Isaac Bay and Port Gaverne.
Our local inn, the Port Gaverne Hotel, is just next-door. It dates back to the 17th century and specialises in local produce, particularly seafood. Book into the hotel restaurant for dinner or choose from the bar menu and have it delivered to your door! You are also most welcome to book into the restaurant for breakfast.
Sunbathe or swim in crystal-clear waters from the small beach, or explore the North Cornwall Heritage Coast - one of the most picturesque and staggeringly beautiful stretches of coastline in the country.
The beach is great for families, with excellent, safe swimming and lots of rock pools and caves to explore - we provide fishing nets in each property. We welcome well-behaved dogs at no extra charge. Port Gaverne is a truly unique location, perfect for a relaxing holiday break at any time of year.
A short History
The Green Door Cottages started life in the 18th Century when the Guy family settled in Port Gaverne and built 3 large fish cellars for the processing of pilchards. Originally called Venus (hence the name of one of our cottages) it was converted into holiday accommodation at the beginning of the 20th Century. Port Gaverne has a long tradition of welcoming holiday visitors – and this still carries on to the present day! The Green Door (as it is often called locally) has been owned by the same family since the mid 1980’s.
Tregudda, in its stunning setting overlooking Port Isaac bay and Port Gaverne, was built as a private home at the beginning of the 20th Century. It was used as owners and staff accommodation as well as an annexe to the Port Gaverne Hotel until being converted into self-catering accommodation in the 1990’s.
