Holidays at Port Isaac in North Cornwall
Port Isaac is an old unspoilt picturesque fishing village situated on the North Cornish coastline. The name Port Isaac is derived from the old Cornish 'Porth Issec' meaning Corn Bay. Nestling in a valley between steep hills, Port Isaac is one of the oldest fishing villages in Cornwall. Visitors to this unique fishing village always find the relaxed atmosphere enchanting.
Today Port Isaac is relatively unspoilt and has been little affected by change during its six hundred years of history. The narrow alleys and streets give Port Isaac an air of enchantment, so different from anything you find elsewhere.
At the harbour - known as the Platt - local fishermen land their catch as they have done down the centuries. You can meet the boats as they come in from the sea and buy fresh crab, lobster and mackerel. Sea fishing is available from the rocks of from boats which may be hired locally at Port Isaac beach.
Fishing trips may also be arranged with the local fishermen and boat owners at Port Isaac. Fresh water fishing is availalbe from the moorland streams a few miles inland and fishing licences and permits can be arranged at the local post office in Port Isaac.
