Our History
25 October 2016
Set within the heart of the quintessential Cornish coastal hamlet of Port Gaverne, the Green Door Cottages began life in the 18th Century.
The Guy family settled in Port Gaverne and built 4 large fish cellars for the processing of pilchards. Originally called Venus, Rashleigh, Union & Liberty (hence the name of two of our cottages), the fish cellar called Venus was converted into holiday accommodation at the beginning of the 20th Century and named the Green Door Cottages.
Thus began the long tradition of welcoming holiday visitors – and this still carries on to the present day! The Green Door (as it’s called locally) has been owned by my family for over 30 years.
Tregudda, in its stunning setting overlooking Port Isaac bay and Port Gaverne, was built as a private home at the beginning of the 20th Century.
Tregudda was our family home, staff accommodation andan annexe to the Port Gaverne Hotel, until it was converted into self-catering accommodation in the 1990’s.
