Portwenn does exist! Fans of ITV1’s Doc Martin will know that our lovely Cornish fishing village Port Isaac stars as the fictional town - Portwenn. It has become as famous as the human actors! Doc Martin viewers will also recognise Port Gaverne, Port Isaac’s smaller, quieter neighbour. This lovely cove has featured in outside scenes, and is also home to “Mrs Wilson’s Hotel”.
Doc Martin is due to film in the area during the Spring & Summer of 2019! Will you be lucky enough to spot them? If not, we can certainly point you in the right direction for many of the most beautiful filming locations. Take a look at our Gallery...
Why not come and explore the familiar surroundings of Portwenn? Tranquil and off-the-beaten-track, Green Door Cottages and Tregudda Apartments provide four-star relaxation with a beautiful setting.
Every contemporary comfort has been thought of, while keeping the character of these lovely buildings. Port Gaverne is the perfect backdrop for a holiday as well as the Portwenn and Doc Martin film location.
Our cottages couldn’t be in a better location – the National Trust-owned beach is just a pebble’s throw from your doorstep. Leave the car behind to walk the cliff paths – Port Isaac, where most of the Doc Martin exterior filming takes place, is just half a mile away in fictional Portwenn. Or perhaps you just want to stay closer to home, swimming or relaxing in the gorgeous cove, and popping over to the Port Gaverne Hotel for fresh seafood.
Charles Prince of Wales and Camillia Duchess of Cornwall are big fans of Doc Martin! They recently made a stop in Port Isaac (the real Port Wenn) as part of their tour of Cornwall and met with the cast and crew of the show.
Sigourney Weaver (Alien movies, Avatar) has had a cameo part in the series.
Although he plays dog-hating Doc Martin in the hit Britcom, actor Martin Clunes is wild about animals.
